Neoguri typhoon that passed near Tokyo after good sweep aside the Japanese archipelago for several days, was downgraded Friday morning to the rank of tropical depression, the National Meteorological Agency said.
Neoguri pierced the heart of southern Japan on Thursday night to Friday (local time) to approach Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo, shortly after 0500 local (22H00 GMT Thursday), accompanied by strong storms to the sea and major waves of several meters, according to NHK television images.
In the capital, where the sun shine again on Friday morning, the day after heavy localized precipitation, the impact of the typhoon was limited: trains ran normally and the airline did not anticipate major disruptions.
Neoguri, less powerful than the top despite gusts that can reach 126 km / h, now turns to the northeast. Region concerned Fukushima, where the nuclear plant is damaged by the tsunami on March 11, 2011 and where the contaminated water is a significant problem. More than 680 homes were flooded or were damaged, according to the weather agency.
Japan suffers tropical cyclones every year, but rarely as violent July.
