An airliner Malaysia Airlines with 298 people aboard was shot down by a missile, according to American officials, in an area of Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists, increasing the shock wave of a conflict between Kiev and the rebels, who has faced Russia with Western powers.
The United States said that the Boeing 777, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and fell near the rebel stronghold of Donetsk, was most likely brought down by a missile launched from land. (See pictures of the site where they found the plane).
