So has denounced the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which has been able to speak with four survivors of the tragedy, which could be rescued by maritime rescue patrols.

The survivors have testified that traffickers arrived aboard two boats and ordered the immigrants who changed their boat in the sea. Immigrants refused because it was too dangerous. There was a violent altercation and traffickers used their boat to attack immigrants.

IOM spokeswoman Christiane Berthiaume, explained that it is believed that 500 immigrants aboard, among whom were Syrians, Palestinians, Egyptians and Sudanese, "were trying to reach Europe," as reported by the BBC BBC.
