The Armed Forces of the United States today conducted raids on six new positions jihadists of the Islamic State (EI) Dam near Mosul in northern Iraq, in support of operations Iraqi and Kurdish forces.
Air strikes, fighter jets carried out "destroyed or damaged three military multipurpose vehicles (Humvees) and multiple sites of EI explosive devices," the United States Central Command said in a statement.
The bombing came a day after Washington confirmed the beheading of American journalist James Foley, abducted in Syria in 2012, at the hands of jihadists EI.

The attacks were carried out "under the authority of supporting humanitarian efforts in Iraq and to protect American personnel and facilities," said the same source.
Since last August 8, the United States has carried out 90 attacks in northern Iraq, 57 of them in support of Iraqi forces fighting near the strategic EI Mosul Dam.
