Eating too much sugary and fatty foods causes changes in behavior and neural activity similar to those addictions.
A study led by Carolina Escobar Briones School of Medicine and the Institute of Biomedical Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) seeks the origin of the urge to eat sweets or fatty foods.
The researchers gave groups of rats a piece of chocolate in a restricted ration, at the same time and for several days.
After applying the routine for weeks, half an hour before receiving the chocolate, animals had a restless in foraging behavior.
In this regard, Escobar explained that it is not the animals are hungry, but develop such conduct by eating the piece of chocolate.
From these studies, scientific and colleagues explored whether these processes lead to an addiction to appetizing, as that is given to the use of certain drugs.
