Concerned about obesity and overweight rates

Obesity and overweight have reached epidemic levels leading to chronic diseases worldwide and in indices Ecuador are also worrying. 

"We are the generation to reverse this problem to benefit the health and welfare of Ecuadorians," said Gina Tambini, representative of the Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) in Ecuador, at a conference in indices which in recent years were reviewed. 

According to statistics, Ecuador already facing problems because 3 out of 10 school-age children and 2 out of 10 teenagers are overweight or obese.

Manuel Peña, consultant to the United Nations on overweight and obesity, meanwhile, confirmed that the figures for Ecuador are part of a chronic disease epidemic and generates about 36 million deaths per year worldwide and 5 million in Latin America. The allies of this evil, as Peña, are excess consumption of salt, sugar and trans and saturated fats. This other health problems such as physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol are added. 

Paradoxically, malnutrition is another determining factor in this problem. A malnourished child from the womb is most likely to reach obesity in its development, the change in eating pattern.

Peña says that over 60% of the foods that contain sugar, which in turn is sucrose, a molecule composed of glucose that is metabolized in the body and is essential to life; and fructose, which is metabolized in the liver, as alcoholism, generates pressure, heart disease, pancreatitis, blood fat, obesity.
