A new earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude affects southern Peru

An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude was felt today in the region of Arequipa, in southern Peru, without so far have reports of casualties or damage, officials said. 
The quake occurred at 09.31 hours (14.31 GMT) and was centered 31 kilometers southeast of the coastal town of Penthouse and a depth of 56 kilometers, detailed the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP). 
The National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) said, meanwhile, that the Navy of Peru reported that the quake did not generate a tsunami warning along the Peruvian coast. 
The Indeci said his Center National Emergency Operations (COEN) provides technical assistance to regional civil defense authorities since the earthquake caused alarm in the southern regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Ayacucho. 


The latter region was hit Sunday by another earthquake of magnitude 6.6 on the Richter scale, which left two people injured minor, a destroyed house and 16 other houses damaged. 
The report also indicated that they were affected three schools, a health center and a temple, and rock falls occurred on several roads in the region. 
To reach the area during the day the President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, and the president of the Council of Ministers, Ana Jara, who said on Sunday in his account on the social network Twitter, that ministers are "as skills, contact quake zone, and surrounding Cora Cora, to coordinate actions with authorities. "
Peru is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area that is recorded about 85% of global seismic activity. 
Yesterday took place in California (western United States) an earthquake of 6.1 degrees on the Richter scale, the most serious in the area since 1989, while Saturday was recorded 6.4 degrees in one of seven regions in the center and southern Chile.
