The quake occurred at 09.31 hours (14.31 GMT) and was centered 31 kilometers southeast of the coastal town of Penthouse and a depth of 56 kilometers, detailed the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).
The National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) said, meanwhile, that the Navy of Peru reported that the quake did not generate a tsunami warning along the Peruvian coast.
The Indeci said his Center National Emergency Operations (COEN) provides technical assistance to regional civil defense authorities since the earthquake caused alarm in the southern regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Ayacucho.
