The Chair Biomechatronics ITESM Campus Guadalajara, Jalisco. developed a device that performs the functions of gases and environmental controls for variables that influence the growth of orchids planted to ensure that 90% of them survive.
The director of Mechatronics (IMT) and professor of the Chair, Enrique Aguayo, adding that in this way increases the survival of orchids and productivity of companies engaged in farming.
He said the team consists of six students and two teachers IMT Chair, divided the work in: design and construction of mechanical and device housing; development of the electronics involved and application development; and software to control everything.
He explained that generates greenhouse environmental conditions that are electronically controlled by means of the application, and created mechanical controls humidity, temperature and lighting.
He said that this part included the design of PVC irrigation pipe and various valves and pumps as well as a casing constructed of black acrylic welded able to store in this test step 16 orchids.
He said the application was developed by the android operating system to control environmental variables and can be adapted to the software program that automatically keeps the conditions required by the plant, and all this from a cell.
He explained that the project grew out of the interest of a company dedicated to this area and then submit the proposal to the State Council for Science and Technology of the State of Jalisco (COECYTJAL), documentary research on biological aspects was made to start after the experimental stage.
