Photo: Astronaut Captures aurora from space

The image was captured directly by the European ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst, from the famous International Space Station. Thus, Alexander Gerst, a leading astronauts currently working on the platform, has earned an impressive photograph.

This picture shows our planet, partially covered by the robotic arm Canadarm2, waiting for a fuel supply ship.

According to the European Space Agency (ESA acronym), the Northern Lights occur when the radiation hits the solar particles with the Earth's upper atmosphere, making it glow with a characteristic greenish blue.

The last remnants of sunlight can be seen as a blue line on the left side, on which a yellow tone correspone our atmosphere by reflecting sunlight looks.

Apparently, the thin band that remains is what supposedly protects us from harmful solar radiation to which we would be exposed without atmosphere.
