Half of patients with heart failure die five years after diagnosis

A study presented in Barcelona found that half of patients with heart failure die five years after diagnosis. This condition is the leading cause of hospitalization in people over 65 in Spain. The research data were presented at the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology.

 The report, based on a sample of 8,436 patients, confirmed the high mortality of heart failure, which causes two to three times more deaths than some advanced cancers. This ailment affects 7 percent of the Spanish population. This percentage increases to 18.7 percent among those over 75 years.
