Twitter recognizes that 23 million users are false

It is increasingly difficult to identify which accounts or profiles found in Twitter are true, or if this is one of the many fakes or fake accounts that abound in the popular social network.

From Twitter had reported that their active user base was growing, but acknowledged that not all active accounts are necessarily a real human being of flesh and blood. Moreover, given a number: 23 million accounts are carried robots.

Along with the stars verified profiles of all levels are responsible for all types of robots to use the service to offer, at best, information or advertising.

Millions of fans that will not make you more influential

Twitter has updated his presentation by noting that the accounts kept by a robot represent 8.5% of the total number of active users at the end of June. That's roughly 23 million speakers that are not human.

This means that when we talk about numbers of followers in the microblogging network may not be as real as it gets number, because if a true account is followed by half of those machines could get millions of followers but it would be more influential for none of them would RT or mark tweets as favorites.

Still, it is not the only social network with this type of problem. The world's largest social network, Facebook, which according to estimates in March this year had more than 1,280 million user accounts, warns in his statistics over 100 million are fake, duplicate or dedicated to spam.

In addition to the criminal directly, such as creating accounts to post links to malware or spam, use the fundamental purposes responds to attempt to simulate a level of relevance that no one has or has not been obtained yet.

In many cases you can talk about people who either perceive a benefit from the fact appear more influence than they have, as might happen with politicians, or users accessing Twitter and need to achieve high growth, it can be difficult or slower if they start to get a small number.

These increasingly difficult to identify bills include profile pictures, biographies and even a large number of followers

The black market followers not diminished but stabilized in all types of social networks. A system which would give prominence to an account not the number of followers, but by the activity itself becomes so necessary.

If you find a tweet that you suspect may be from a fake account, you may report it via this link so that Twitter has on record.
