Storm Bertha threat to Caribbean

The second tropical storm of the hurricane season in the Atlantic, called Bertha, formed on Thursday and on Friday the Caribbean. 

With winds of 75 miles per hour, Bertha set off alarms in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands of the United States, Britain and other islands, which have already warned their citizens of possible tropical storm. 

According to a bulletin issued by the National Hurricane Center (NCH, for its acronym in English), Bertha was moving west-northwest at a speed of 31 kilometers per hour. "No significant change is expected in the intensity of the winds in the next 48 hours," forecasters said. 



In addition, Barbados, St. Lucia, Dominica, Vieques and Culebra are under warning. "Bertha is expected to pass near Barbados on Friday afternoon and move through the central part of the Lesser Antilles on Friday evening," the announcement NCH. He also warned Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. 

The hurricane season in the Atlantic began June 1 and runs through November 30.
