On the occasion of the Meeting Korea - Mexico which takes place from 27 to 30 August in the City of Mexico, in the National Film Archives, Wednesday night, opened the Korean Film Week. This will take place from August 27 to September 7, with the screening of 10 films recently produced the Asian country.
This selection is an example of the richness of Korean cinema, as noted by the Director of Broadcasting and Programming, National Film Archives, Nelson Carro Rodriguez during the opening ceremony which was accompanied by the director of the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico, Chi Young Chang; Department Director of International Promotion Korean Film Council (Korean Film Council-KOFIC), and the inaugural film director, "The Russian novel" (2012), Shin Yeon-shick.
CART Nelson Rodriguez said that the Korean film industry has become very successful, not only in his own country but in the world as it affects major international festivals with pieces that span many different genres such as melodramas, thrillers and auteur films that are highly valued in Mexico.
The piece "Russian novel" (Reoshian soseo, 2012), which began with the Korean Film Week, is a film that deals with demons, secrets and frustrations of writers.
The film portrays the story of Shin-hyo, an unknown writer who despite their lack of preparation for the job and his constant failures, is motivated by a colleague and a fan to keep on writing. However, after what seems like a frustrated and confused suicide attempt, and after spending 27 years in coma, wakes up and learns that his books published while in a vegetative state, are considered masterpieces.
Team Korea will continue until September 7, with the films: "tough game" (Baewooneun baewooda, 2013), the same director Shin Yeon-shick. About an actor who has the opportunity to discover the mysterious world of fame, power and pleasure, while the dark side of the glamorous life.
The week continues with "The Way Back Home" (Jibeuro ganeun gil, 2012), a work of Pang Eun-jin in which the husband of a housewife jailed for dealing drugs in France, tries to rescue closure; in "The Face Reader" (Gwansang, 2013), Han Jae-rim, the story of a skilled reader of faces who are offered the opportunity to collaborate with Yeon-hong geisha to discover the culprit of it recounts a murder, and "Norah Noh" (2013) Kim Sung-hee, the life of a designer who dominated the scene with the young Korean fashion designer Suh Eun-young is counted.
The variety of topics characteristic of Korean cinema is exemplified with films like Sangho Yeon entitled "scam" (Saibi, 2013), in which the plot centers on a rural town that is flooded, and whose inhabitants are prey of a swindler; while the genre of animation, The King of Pigs (Dwae-ji-ui wang 2011), Yeon Sang-Ho, who involves two men hiding a terrible secret project, while their city lives under the threat of a serial murderer.
While the Korean War is evoked by director Hun Jang in the piece, "The Front" (Go-ji-jeon, 2011), which tells the story of a soldier who finds an old friend, transformed into a machine kill, and the film directed by Zhang Lu, "Gyeongju" (2014), in which nostalgia and death of a friend bring a man back to his hometown in the Korean province of Gyeongju. During his stay he meets a woman he does not take in a relationship, but also is involved in a police intrigue.
Finally, the Korean Film Week presents "Fatal Encounter" (Yeokrin, 2014), Lee Jae-kyoo, who set in the sixteenth century during the Joseon Dynasty, and inspired by real historical events, tells the adventures of a heartless mercenary who is forced to kill a sovereign, nicknamed "The King of misfortune" in exchange for the life of his beloved.
