After the call to present the Innovation Award in BioNanotechnology Cinvestav-Neolpharma 2014, researchers Gilberto Castaneda, Jaime Garcia and Leopoldo Santos sued science decided to support.
Scientists at the Centre for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV) said that one of the disciplines with the most potential application of nanobiotechnology is therefore to develop particles several times smaller than a bacterium can fight diseases like cancer.
In Mexico, the area of bionanotechnology has opportunity for growth, as there are now scientific groups in different states of the country that generate specific projects, the challenge is to bring them to fruition to benefit society, said Castaneda Hernandez, assigned to the Department Cinvestav Pharmacology.
Argumedo Santos explained that for this reason decided Neolpharma Cinvestav and support for the second consecutive year in bionanotechnology innovative work that could turn into developments in pharmaceutical field, medical diagnostic and therapeutic generated in Mexico.
Cinvestav researcher, and one of those responsible for organizing the award, explained that the call is addressed to groups attached to universities, colleges, research institutes and public and private health installed nationwide research .
They must submit original works nano and biotechnology-focused medical sector which have not been published in scientific journals, he explained in a statement.
He noted that since it is an emerging area of knowledge is expected to increase each year the number of participants and diversify the regions of the Republic of source investigations.
In its first edition, the prize included the participation of 12 original papers, half of which originated in institutions of the Federal District and the rest from other states.
"By instituting the award was thought to promote innovative research and innovation in areas that put Mexico in the global context of bionanotechnology, so the pharmaceutical company decided to support this initiative, which has a single bag the winner of 150 thousand dollars, similar to other awards amount supported by pharmaceutical companies, "said Santos Argumedo.
Among the papers presented at the convocation of 2013, highlighted targeted at medical and biological applications such as research aimed at improving the use of vaccines.
The winner is a research tool for the treatment of cancer, encapsulating small molecule therapeutics, and thus enhances the effect against cancer cells.
They indicated that the evaluation is blind, that is, not the name of the author of the work is known for its rating, and the jury is selected after the close of the call, in order to choose the best scientists to evaluate the work, he said.
The deadline for researchers to register and submit papers to the Innovation Award in 2014 Neolpharma BioNanotechnology Cinvestav is Friday, August 15, and their bases are available on the website: premiobionano.cinvestav
