IPN students invent corn sheller

Students from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and automated built a corn sheller compact and highly efficient, similar or even superior to some products offered in the market.

Its creators, Fernando Garcia de la Cruz, Erick Montiel Pitalúa Moses Vivar Estévez Montoya and Adrian Pacheco, aim with this prototype growing farmers have the opportunity to purchase a machine at an affordable cost, reports excelsior.com.mx

The design of the machine, with an approximate weight of 119 kilos, it's own and was built on the premises of the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (Cecyt-2), "Miguel Bernard", for which required several new components.

Students of the sixth semester of studies Automated Systems Technician said that unlike other prototypes, this machine is not only demonstrative but please immediate operation by a farmer in the field.

The machine, 60 inches long, 60 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, consists of an inlet hopper where the ears are placed; contains a shredder screen where there is a rotor spinning pulleys and exerts pressure and friction enough to shell corn.

The middle part of the screen is perforated with holes with a sufficient separation so that they pass only the corn kernels. It has two hoppers where they exit the grains and waste (dust and cob), with a pronounced inclination for the product to slide by gravity.

Automatic or manual
García de la Cruz said that the threshing mechanism has a modern control system through a board through which you can select auto mode or leave it in manual so you can do the same job with a handle on the output hopper, where there are no electrical power.

In terms of energy, the engine phase, turns sideways and requires exclusive outlet; to start consuming from 15 to 16 amperes, but lit only uses 5 to 6 units of electricity.

The efficiency of a machine is measured by the mass of grains obtained, that is, first rib where corn grain, corn cob powder are obtained and weighed. In our case, for every 100 pounds of cob they release got 88 kilos of grain, two kilos of powder and 10 kilos of cob, "they said

They acquired the materials to build the machine in industrial landfills, plus they applied their knowledge in manufacturing machines, sheet cutting, computer-aided manufacturing, software and programming in the area of electrical control and automation systems.

By integrating a system that switches between two channels of grain filling process to maintain a fixed bale, led by a microcontroller, plus affordable, polytechnic students start soon not rule the patent process.
