Each year the first week of August the world celebrates "World Breastfeeding Week" in order to promote, protect and support the practice.

This year, the Directorate of Health of the Municipality breastfeeding is promoted under the slogan "Breastfeeding: a victory for life." 

Breastfeeding is recognized as the optimal form of early feeding, for its innumerable health benefits for women and children, both short and long term. In addition, it is recommended that children be breastfed exclusively until 6 months of age and life from that moment, start to introduce foods into your diet without giving up breastfeeding. Ideally, breastfeeding with food, should be extended to 2 or more years of child's life. 

In this regard, Undersecretary of Social Development and Health, Piaggio Stephen Martin, said "Throughout the year we add controls and basic health services, different strategies to encourage breastfeeding where both involved nutritionist, obstetric, the promoters, nurse, psychologists, dentists, pediatricians, clinical, and administrative gynecologists in each Primary Care Center according to the need of their community. "

In this context, interdisciplinary teams of municipal health centers perform a series of activities for this week, so invite pregnant women and mothers to participate.
