A total of 20 people died and 161 were injured when three cars derailed a train of the Moscow Metro. It is the most serious in the history of the main means of transport of the Russian capital accident.
The derailment occurred at rush hour on the stretch between Park Pobedy and Slavonic Bulvar stations in the east of the city, when the train was heading from central Moscow to the suburbs, which prevented further casualties.
Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the Investigative Committee of Russia, ruled out the possibility that the failure is the result of a terrorist attack. "All other lines of investigation are open," he said. The Ministry of Health reported that 19 passengers died in the accident and another died in the hospital.
"In total 161 people were injured, of whom 129 were hospitalized, including 42 in serious condition," said the spokesman of Health, Oleg Salagái.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, declared a day of mourning and warned that the law applies to those responsible.
