least 660 pedophiles were arrested in a massive British operation, which involved police officers from 45 different agencies. Doctors, boys scouts, leaders of residences for vulnerable children and ex-policemen were among those detained. The arrest of a legislator was officially denied. The investigation lasted six months and was analyzed for coordinated access to the Internet and encrypted sites where the most egregious cases of child abuse is. One of the arrested doctors had at least 1 million images of abused children, some of the worst cases that can be seen "on line".
The operation sought to save 400 children who had been abused, and potential victims. 833 houses were raided and 9,172 computers, hard drives and phones were examined. Among the 660 arrested, at least 399 were registered as sex offenders in the British official record, but most had no police record. "Our goal was to protect children who were victims on line or were at risk of violence or the threat of sexual exploitation," said Phil Gormley, the British deputy NCA, who coordinated the operation.
"Some of the people who started watching indecent internet images abusing boys went directly. The operation was not only to stop people looking images but to potential sex offenders, "he said. The message is that the internet is no more limited to commit these vicious acts and if you look, leave your DNA on it. Police have admitted that in England and Wales are dealing with an unprecedented number of reports of sexual abuse.
The message is clear: The Internet is now a hostile territory for pedophiles. Police around the world are collaborating in the investigation of pedophiles, which are interconnected via the Internet. They are using new techniques to detect and process to them and potential offenders.
