The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, and the main pro-Russian rebel leaders said they could order a ceasefire today if an agreement on a new peace plan to end five months of war in the East of the country is signed. The possible turning point in the confrontation comes after weeks in which prone to Moscow separatist groups achieved great victories, according to NATO, made possible by the support of thousands of Russian soldiers. In remarks on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Poroshenko said the deal is subject to a planned meeting for today in Minsk with envoys from Ukraine, Russia and the watchdog OSCE European security. The rebel leader said Alexander Zakharchenko separatists also would order a ceasefire, starting an hour later, when representatives of Kiev signed a peace plan at that meeting.
